McDonald’s Opens World’s First Monopoly Hotel

McDonald’s has created a pop-up hotel in Melbourne, Australia, modeled after the Monopoly game. The hotel, which was unveiled in Federation Square yesterday, is one of the world’s smallest, measuring less than 8 feet by 10 feet.

The space boasts a bright red game board interior and nostalgic nudges to the game complete with “Free Parking” and “Go to Jail” posters on the walls.

Two lucky fans, Laura Paton and Emma Kendrick, won a night’s stay in the hotel to mark the celebration, and were even greeted by the Mr. Monopoly character.

The hotel was built to celebrate the return of the company’s Monopoly game in Australia.

“Monopoly is one of those quintessential family board games, we’ve all got fond memories of playing it, so we wanted to bring it to life in a unique way,” said Jenni Dill, chief marketing officer of McDonald’s Australia.

The company has also launched a new interactive game app where players can scan their chance cards into the app to unlock new games.
