New ‘Mortal Kombat’ Game Launching Next Year

The co-creator of classic fighting game Mortal Kombat confirmed a new version of the video game will launch in 2015.Ed Boon, who helped designed the iconic brawler, revealed on Twitter the new game, called Mortal Kombat X. No platforms were revealed, but the game will most likely launch on new video game consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

A trailer for Mortal Kombat X features a duel between the series’ most recognizable stars: Scorpion and Sub-Zero. The footage appears to feature a new move or two, including Scorpion spearing Sub-Zero on the ground, then flipping him over.

Before watching this trailer, a quick warning: Keep in mind this is Mortal Kombat, gruesome fatalities and all.
The last time players spotted the franchise on consoles was the 2011 launch of Mortal Kombat. That game introduced an X-Ray move, where players pull off a slow-motion attack that shows an opponent’s bones breaking. A version of that title also launched on Sony’s PlayStation Vita.
