Acer announced Friday that it will be showing two new products at CES 2014. The first is the Acer C720P-2600, the latest in the company’s touchscreen Chromebook line. The second is the Iconia A1-830, a stylish 7.9-inch Android tablet.
The C720P-2600 Chromebook features a new configuration and a new color: Moonstone White. Those familiar with the C720 will be happy to know that this version still has the 11.6-inch HD LED back-lit screen, 32GB SSD, and the Intel Celeron 2955U (Haswell) processor. Aside from the color makeover, the C720P-2600 also comes with 2GB of DDR3 memory.
Chromebooks fall somewhere between tablets and laptops. The C720P-2600 weighs just a little under three pounds, and is equipped with a touchscreen, WiFi, and a built-in webcam. While it lacks the sheer processing power of a true laptop, its Chrome OS and integration with other Google products—including Google Docs—aims to give the casual user a more intuitive and personal experience.
The C720P-2600 will be available in the U.S. at an MSRP of $299.99.
Also debuting at CES 2014 is Acer’s new Iconia A1-830, a sleek, 7.9-inch Android tablet with an aluminum metal finish. The Iconia measures 0.32 inches thin, weighs just 0.84 pounds, and runs on the Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean operating system. It features a 7.9-inch screen, 16GB of built-in storage, 1GB of RAM, and a claimed 7.5 hours of battery life.
The Iconia seems to be setting itself up as a less expensive alternative to the Samsung Galaxy and Nexus tablets. It offers many of the same creature comforts, including WiFi, front- and rear-facing cameras, and microSD external storage support.
The Iconia A1-830 will be available in North America and has an MSRP of $179.99 USD and $199.99 CAD.
