Flight 711 was set for an on-time departure at 6:45 from Allama Iqbal International Airport to New York, via Manchester on Dec. 15. When the pilot learned there were no sandwiches on the menu — only peanuts, chips and biscuits, according to the paper — he said he “needed sandwiches at any cost.”

The pilot’s request was sent to the catering office and then to the airline’s management office in Karachi. The management “directed the catering department to meet his demand.”

According to the paper, the flight finally departed at 9:15 a.m. — a two-and-a-half hour delay.

Airline spokesman Mashhood Tajwar told The Nation that “management had taken a serious notice of the delay of an international flight. He said investigation had been ordered and action would be taken against those responsible for it.”
